REFERRALS FROM MAYOR & COUNCIL

COUNCIL MEETING OF JULY 22, 2014


TO THE CITY MANAGER:


GIRLS, INC.:
During the Crime Prevention Grant Presentation given by Director Seth Brown, the issue with the local GIRLS, INC. being in a desperate financial situation came up in conversation. Director Brown was asked to look into the Crime Prevention Budget to see if there are any monies available for the City to assist in helping save this facility. (Request of Councilor Woodson)

DEMOLITION LIENS:
An Ordinance authorizing the waiver of certain demolition liens was introduced on First Reading on the City Attorney’s Agenda. The Council is to be notified by providing a list of what waivers have taken place and who the waivers were done for. (Request of Councilor Henderson)

Deputy City Manager David Arrington was asked to gather information on whether or not these properties are to go back on the tax rolls for the City. (Request of Councilor Davis)

GEORGIA POWER:
A Resolution authorizing a Governmental Pole Attachment License Agreement was discussed on the City Attorney’s Agenda. A request was made for staff to make contact with Georgia Power to come before Council to give more information on this agreement. (Request of Councilor Davis)

In addition to the referral made by Councilor Davis, a request was for Georgia Power to also give information on other cities that are allowing these types of agreements where citizens are able to put security cameras on power poles. (Request of Mayor Pro-Tem Turner Pugh)

PUBLIC DEFENDER:
Mr. William Wright addressed Mayor and Council on the Public Agenda. Points were made on the length of time that persons are incarcerated in jail without having met with a Public Defender. A request was made for information on the “72 Hour Policy” to be given to Council. (Request of Mayor Tomlinson)

PUBLIC/PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP:
A request was made for Deputy City Manager Arrington to keep Council informed on the progress of the Chattahoochee Rowing Company. (Request of Councilor Woodson)

BULL CREEK GOLF COURSE:
During the FY14 Preliminary Update made by Finance Director Pam Hodge, information on the Bull Creek Golf Course’s budget was given. A request was made for the staff to get a report on the affects of the weather in comparison to the rounds of golf. Also, provide a report on the number of rounds of golf that have been played over the last five years. (Request of Councilor Davis)

OPPORTUNITY ZONES:
Deputy City Manager Arrington did a presentation on Opportunity Zones; a referral was made for information, maps, and census tracts on the Military Zones that have been designated by the State of Georgia. (Request of Mayor Tomlinson) Also, determine if the Military Zones are just a designation or if there are incentives that apply to the designation, and what are those incentives. (Request of Councilor Davis) In addition, identify any other opportunities for different types of zones. (Request of Mayor Pro Tem Turner Pugh)

EMPLOYEE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION:
During the ADA Accessibility Parking Presentation, a referral was made to have staff look into the possibility of having employees that work in the Citizens Service Center to identify their vehicles with some sort of window sticker. (Request of Councilor Woodson)

BASEBALL HALL OF FAME:
Have staff to check into ways to commemorate the career of Mr. Frank Thomas. (Request of Councilor Davis)
