SUBJECT: Legal Services for Risk Management Matters

INITIATED BY: Human Resources/Risk Management

Recommendation: Approval is requested to authorize payment of attorneys’ fees which may be incurred for legal services rendered regarding Risk Management issues during Fiscal Year 2018.

Background: Risk Management legal services are billed separately from both City Attorney’s legal fees and workers’ compensation TPA services.

Analysis: The law firms identified in the Resolution are among the best workers’ compensation and litigation defense firms in the State of Georgia. These firms have agreed to provide services to CCG at the same rate currently in effect.

Financial Considerations: None.

Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: None.

Legal Considerations: The City Attorney's office has approved the language of this Resolution.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT OF ATTORNEY FEES WHICH MAY BE INCURRED FOR LEGAL SERVICES RENDERED REGARDING RISK MANAGEMENT ISSUES DURING FISCAL YEAR 2018.

WHEREAS, Risk Management utilizes the services of attorneys specializing in Workers’ Compensation and liability issues.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the Risk Manager and Finance Director are hereby authorized to pay attorney fees to Moore Ingram Johnson & Steele, and/or Levy, Thompson, Sibley & Hand, and/or Ross, Burriss & Handelman, and/or Brown & Adams which may be incurred for legal services rendered regarding Risk Management issues during Fiscal Year 2018. Funds are available in the FY18 Budget: Risk Management Workers’ Compensation Contractual Services: 0860-220-3820-6319 and Risk Management Unfunded Claims Uninsured Losses: 0860-220-3830-6842.
