SUBJECT: Purchase of Property located at 1030 Fort Benning Road

Recommendation: Approval is requested to execute the Sales Contract for the purchase of property located at 1030 Fort Benning Road (Tax Number 064 029 005) in the amount of $105,000.

Background: On December 9, 2014, Council authorized the Mayor to execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Muscogee County School District for the exchange of property for future educational and redevelopment purposes per Resolution #378-14. Exhibit "A" of the MOU referenced City Acquisitions Properties (a) 1030 Fort Benning Road as a property to acquire for this exchange.

The City had the property appraised and the fair market value is $105,000. The property owner notified the City of its intent to sell the property for the fair market value.

Analysis: Acquisition of this property will allow the City to assemble a large tract of land for future educational and redevelopment purposes by the Muscogee County School District per the MOU between the City and Muscogee County School District.

Financial Considerations: The property will be purchased with Enterprise Zone SPLOST funds.

Legal Considerations: Council must approve all real estate acquisitions.

Recommendations/ Actions: Approval is requested to authorize the City Manager to execute the Sales Contract for the purchase of property located at 1030 Fort Benning Road (Tax Number 064 029 005) in the amount of $105,000.

A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACQUISITION OF PROPERTY LOCATED AT 1030 FORT BENNING ROAD, COLUMBUS, MUSCOGEE COUNTY, GEORGIA.

WHEREAS, the City entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Muscogee County School District for the exchange of property for future redevelopment purposes; and,

WHEREAS, the property is located adjacent to City-owned property and can be assembled for this purpose; and,

WHEREAS, the acquisition of this property is consistent with the intent of the Enterprise Zone and SPLOST program; and,

WHEREAS, funding exists in the Enterprise Zone SPLOST account to purchase the property for $105,000.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

The City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to execute the Sales Contract and any relevant documents that will be necessary to purchase the property located at 1030 Fort Benning Road, Columbus, Georgia, tax map (064 029 005).
