An ordinance repealing Columbus Code Section 9-3 pertaining to pauper burials and replacing it with a new Code Section 9-3 providing for cremations and burials for the indigent at City expense; and for other purposes.

THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1.

Section 9-3 pertaining to pauper burial is hereby repealed in its entirety and a new Section 9-3 is hereby adopted in its place.

Sec. 9-3. Disposition of the Remains of Indigent Persons.

In order to satisfy the requirements of O.C.G.A. §36-12-5, pertaining to deceased indigents, Columbus will undertake the following obligations, The determination of indigency will be made by the Columbus Office of the Department of Human Resources, Division of Family and Children Services (DFACS). Once that determination is certified by DFACS, Columbus will offer the following options to dispose of the remains:

SECTION 2.

All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
