COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 12, 2016


TO THE CITY MANAGER:


INTEGRATED WASTE VEHICLES & OPERATIONS AUDIT REPORT:

During the audit report given by Internal Auditor John Redmond, there was a graph on slide 32 of the presentation. A request was made for this graph to be printed on larger paper and given to the Councilors for their information. (Request of Mayor Pro Tem Turner Pugh)

12th STREET NO PARKING ZONES:

An ordinance was presented to the Council on 2nd Reading, establishing No Parking zones on 12th Street, between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue. During the discussion, a request was made for contact to be made with the business owners in that area, informing them of this change. (Request of Councilor Thomas)

COLUMBUS AQUATICS COMMISSION:

An ordinance was listed on 1st Reading, amending Chapter 4 of the Columbus Code by creating the Columbus Aquatics Commission. During the discussion, a request was made for the ordinance to include wording that specifies that the commission would participate in the hiring process of employees, but ultimately the City would make the final decision. (Request of Councilor Thomas)

In addition to the referral made by Councilor Thomas, a request was made that staff be sure that the person hired to oversee the operations of the center to have the experience and qualifications needed to run such a facility. (Request of Councilor Huff)

DEMOLITION LIST:

An ordinance was presented on 1st Reading, listing several properties to be demolished. During the discussion, a request was made for a list of properties waiting for demolition to be provided to the Council. The request was to include which properties that the City is paying to maintain while it is on the wait list, and which properties have liens against them whether already demolished or not. (Request of Councilor Davis)

During the 1st Reading of this ordinance, there were citizens present asking for their properties to be removed from the list. A request was made for information to be published on the CCG Website, giving citizens a list of information that is needed if they wish to come before the Council asking for removal of their property from the demolition list. (Request of Councilor Woodson)

The owner of the property located at 2801 Colorado Street spoke during the 1st Reading of this ordinance. During the discussions, Interim Inspections & Code Director John Hudgison stated that there was an inspection of the property that revealed that there was asbestos present in the drywall. A request was made for the report with this information to be provided to the property owner. (Request of Councilor Henderson)

CIVIC CENTER ADVISORY BOARD:

While going through the board appointments listed on the Clerk of Council’s Agenda, a request was made for the Clerk to check on the resignation of Ritchie Graham from the Civic Center Advisory Board. (Request of Councilor Thomas)
