SUBJECT: Boxwood Project

INITIATED BY: Columbus Office of Crime Prevention


Recommendation: Approval is requested to extend the current contract with Columbus Parks and Recreation to award funding for Crime Prevention initiatives through June 30, 2014.

Background: Columbus Office of Crime Prevention has agreed to recommend the balance of the funding for the Columbus Parks and Recreation effort to provide quality programming for juveniles during the summer, after school as well as provide a resource and location for community efforts to enrich the neighborhood.

Analysis: Funds will be used to pay for quality programming for juveniles during the summer, after school as well as provide a resource and location for community efforts to enrich the neighborhood.

Financial Considerations: These funds are appropriated from the Other Local Option Sales Tax, Crime Prevention Program and do not require a match.

Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Manager to extend the existing contract with Columbus Parks and Recreation through June 30, 2014 to provide funding for quality programming as well as mentoring for juveniles and adults within the Boxwood Recreation Center area.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXTENSION OF THE CONTRACT WITH COLUMBUS PARKS AND RECREATION FOR $40,599.63 FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING THE INITIATIVES OF COLUMBUS PARKS AND RECREATION.

WHEREAS, Columbus Parks and Recreation has the Boxwood Project to impact the lives of juveniles and the surrounding community; and,

WHEREAS, the Columbus Office of Crime Prevention has authorized funding under the Crime Prevention Program for this project in the amount of $40,599.63 to Columbus parks and Recreation.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized to extend the current contract through the Columbus Office of Crime Prevention with Columbus Parks and Recreation through June 30, 2014 for the balance of the funding for the Boxwood Project. Funds were budgeted in the FY13 budget and will be carried over to the FY14 Budget: Other Local Option Sales Tax, Crime Prevention Program.
