Background: Parks and Recreation Park Services Division staff are currently operating offices at 1400 Cusseta Road and also at 3950 Schatulga Road. The property located at 1490 Cusseta Road is adjacent to the current property that the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department owns. Consolidating these properties would allow the Park Services Division to operate at one location. The property is listed for $149,000 but the owner has agreed to sell it for the appraised value of $140,000. The City would share in the closing costs. Analysis: The acquisition of these properties will provide an opportunity to consolidate the Parks and Recreations Park Services Division on Cusseta Road. This would allow the entire Park Services Division staff in addition to equipment and supplies to be consolidated within closer proximity. It would allow the division to have better communication, consolidation of equipment and supplies, and increase the overall operation and efficiency of the Park Services Division rather than having the division located in two areas that are not adjacent. Financial Considerations: The current balance of the Enterprise Zone Fund is approximately $1.5 million. This balance is made up of proceeds earned from the sale of property to Walmart and the Muscogee County School System. Legal Considerations: Council must approve all matters related to real estate. Recommendations: Approval is requested to acquire 1490 Cusseta Road in the amount of $140,000, plus closing costs, for the consolidation of the Parks and Recreation Parks Services Division onto Cusseta Road.
