SUBJECT: Construction of Restrooms on the Riverwalk

INITIATED BY: Planning Department

Recommendation: Approve the resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to construct needed restroom under the Martin Memorial Bridge. Item delayed March 11, 2014 agenda.

Background: There is a need for additional restrooms to serve the general public utilizing the Riverwalk and the Martin Pedestrian Bridge.

Analysis: This project will allow for the construction of a restroom facility along the Riverwalk, under the Martin Pedestrian Bridge.

Financial Considerations: Funding for this project is being provided by a Georgia Department of Transportation High Priority Project (HPP) grant. The total cost for construction is $243,861.60. Eighty percent or $195,088.80 will be paid for by the HPP funding, with the remaining twenty percent or $48,772.80 to be paid from the city's Paving Fund. In addition, the Uptown Columbus Executive Board has notified the city that it has approved a $10,000 contribution for these restrooms. This funding will be used to reduce the city's required twenty percent match to $38,772.80.

Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The restrooms will require daily routine maintenance from the Parks and Recreation Department.

Legal Considerations: None
