TO: Mayor and Councilors

INITIATED BY: Lisa Goodwin, Deputy City Manager

Recommendation: Approval is requested to authorize the City Manager to submit an application and accept, if awarded, an ACCG Civic Affairs Foundation Grant in the amount of $7,500, or as otherwise awarded, with no local match requirements to be used for the Youth Advisory Council events and activities and to amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by the amount of the award.

Background: The Mission of the Youth Advisory Council is to broaden the scope of youth leadership in Columbus, Georgia through voluntarism, service and initiatives that are directed towards allowing youth input into policy issues, identifying youth issues, and participating in the development of positive solutions.

Analysis: The available funds will be distributed through a competitive application process. If awarded, the YAC will Host a Community Wide Youth Summit on the issue of Bullying and Cyberbullying. They recently hosted a Talk Show in conjunction with Columbus Against Bullying and recognize the importance of making this a priority in our community.

Financial Considerations: The grant request is $7,500 with no local match.

Legal Considerations: None.
