SUBJECT: Lease Agreement – 919 Lawyers Ln and 2401 Buena Vista Rd

INITIATED BY: Community Reinvestment


Recommendation: Approval is requested to renew a lease agreement with New Horizons to lease the buildings located at 919 Lawyers Lane and 2401 Buena Vista Road for $3,394 per month for an additional five (5) years.

Background: The City owns the properties located at 919 Lawyers Lane and 2401 Buena Vista Road. It has been leased since 2002 by New Horizons Community Service Board for $3,394 per month to provide services to those suffering from addiction and mental illness. New Horizons has requested to renew the lease for an additional five years.

Analysis: If the City does not renew the lease with New Horizons, the organization will no longer have an affordable place to provide services to those suffering from addiction and mental illness. The lease amount includes maintenance and property insurance. The tenant is responsible for utilities and liability insurance.

Financial Considerations: There will be no cost burden to the City. The tenant pays the City $55.87 per month for maintenance and property insurance. The tenant will be responsible for phone, utilities, liability insurance, etc.

Legal Considerations: Any lease agreement involving the City requires Council approval.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A LEASE AGREEMENT WITH NEW HORIZONS COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD TO LEASE THE BUILDING AT 919 LAWYERS LANE AND 2401 BUENA VISTA ROAD FOR $3,394 PER MONTH FOR A PERIOD OF FIVE (5) YEARS.

WHEREAS, the City owns the buildings located at 919 Lawyers Lane and 2401 Buena Vista Road; and,

WHEREAS, the buildings are currently leased by New Horizons Community Service Board; and,

WHEREAS, New Horizons Community Service Board has requested to renew the lease agreement for the buildings; and,

WHEREAS, the properties will continue to be used to provide services to those suffering from addiction and mental illness; and,

WHEREAS, the City will charge the tenant $3,394 per month for a period of five (5) years.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a lease agreement with the New Horizons Community Service Board to lease the buildings at 919 Lawyers Lane and 2401 Buena Vista Road for $3,394 per month for a period of five (5) years.
